Yvonne Banks Caring Teacher Award

Teachers teach because they care. Teaching young people is what they do best.
It requires long hours, patience, and care.
--Horace Mann
The LFCDS Parent Association is honored to support the Yvonne Banks Caring Teacher Award and needs your help to select the 2019 recipients. This prestigious award was established in 1992 to celebrate two teachers annually “who have demonstrated exceptional creativity using their abilities to help and nurture children.”

Yvonne Banks was a teacher and a parent at LFCDS. The family of Yvonne Banks originally created the award to honor the compassion and support her children received from their teachers at our school during Yvonne’s illness. Whether you are a parent or a student, participating in the nomination process is a wonderful way to express your appreciation for all the extra help and compassion our teachers give to the students.

If you are interested in nominating a teacher for the Yvonne Banks Caring Teacher Award, please tell us why you think he or she deserves this important award. Your nominations will be shared with Head of School, Joy Hurd; Assistant Head of School/Head of Lower School, Pete Moore; Head of Upper School, Andy Sperling; and Director of Early Childhood/Assistant Head of Lower School, Sara Walsh. Each nominated teacher will receive a copy of your letter, and you may nominate more than one teacher. Students are also encouraged to submit nominations.

You may complete a nomination form (click HERE to download), or you may send a letter or email. Nomination forms are available in the Spirit Store for your convenience, and there are boxes at the Onwentsia and Green Bay entrances where you or your student may submit nomination forms.  In addition, completed forms may be returned to Susan Murphy at susan.murphy@lfcds.org or in her Upper School office; or to Jen Baer at jen.baer@lfcds.org or in her office by the Onwentsia entrance.

All nominations must be submitted by Friday, May 10. We will present the recipients with their awards at the All-School Assembly on Thursday, June 6.

Thank you for your help with this important recognition!
