Dear LFCDS Family,
It is with sadness that we share some important news with you, news we wish we could tell everyone in person. Wednesday we received word that our beloved colleague, parent, and Head of Upper School Dave Genger died suddenly during the previous night. We do not yet have all details in place at this time and will do our best to communicate information about how you can support Dave’s family and memorial arrangements.
Whether through prayer or a treasured memory, I invite all of us to give thanks for the goodness and love that was a hallmark of everything Dave did professionally and personally. In addition to the excellence that Dave brought to the science classroom and as Head of the Upper School, Dave was a wonderful husband to Vanessa and father to Melissa, Coley, and Allyson (LFCDS classes of 2003, 2005, and 2007). As the LFCDS community learned this spring, Dave was about to embark on a new professional adventure as Head of Rio Grande School in Santa Fe, NM. Even though they only knew Dave a short time, the Rio Grande School joins us in our deep sadness.
We grieve together as a community, and want you to know that the School is available to assist you as we can. We have established a community blog, rememberingdave.wordpress.com, for the LFCDS family to express their thoughts, memories, and condolences to the Genger family. We invite you to join in the remembrance if you would like to. Further information on how to support the Gengers will be available soon, along with information on memorial services as they become available. As you can well imagine, there are so many people who wish to help Vanessa and the Genger daughters at this time; on their behalf, we ask you to please be sensitive to their need for family time and rest. Opportunities to celebrate Dave and to support his family will surely present themselves soon.
